It would be great if one was allowed to vote. But ironically the 14th Amendment has been used countless times to disenfranchise those who have a criminal record. Some states do reinstate the ability to vote once you are discharged but I feel unjustly many more do not.

I get the reason why the disenfranchisement clause was put into that amendment after the Civil War, but honestly, those who have committed crimes in modern times are not successionists nor do they advocate the overthrow of the government. I feel that most if not all, would like to have some of their basic civil rights restored once they are punished so they can better society and themselves in the process by being more engaged.
